Hi,
it seems like the checkbox "Make Defaults" in the Colors window doesn't seem to have an effect.
Everytime I restart DPlot, the colors are still the initial default ones.
Or do I misunderstand this function?
Regards,
Tom

This is another victim of version 1.9.9.5's change of saving settings files to c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\DPlot. Don't look for the file... unfortunately you won't find it. This will be fixed in the next release, thanks for pointing out the problem.

The bug you've found is due to screwed up logic that fails to create a \Preferences folder under c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\DPlot when DPlot first runs. Then when you check "Make defaults" DPlot tries, but fails, to save a preferences file to that folder. You can get around the problem before the next release by using Explorer to create the folder c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\DPlot\Preferences. If you ever save custom contour palettes you'll also want to create c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\DPlot\Colors, which has a similar problem.

Dave,

I'm using 2.025, and when opening a CSV file by right clicking it in Explorer, and selecting DPlot from the "Open with" menu, DPlot never seems to pick up the correct "default.set" in the ..\Application Data\DPlot\Preferences subdirectory. Opening the same dataset in Excel, then DDE'ing the data to DPlot picks up the correct colors, it seems.

The reason I wanted to open from Explorer is that the datasets I am going to be working with will have more rows than Excel can handle.

Is this how it should work? I wonder if an extra entry in the shell menu is needed to look for the dataset?

Jon

Jon,
Yes, that's how it should work and that's how it does work for me, when I tried it just now. I'd appreciate it if you'd send me your default.set file. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that DPlot encounters an error processing default.set and gives up before it gets to the color definitions. From what you said about Excel I wouldn't think that's the case, but otherwise I'm stumped.

Jon,
I received your files, thanks. But it still works as expected for me. This is a head-scratcher. A few questions:

What version of Windows are you using?

What results do you get if:
1) DPlot is already open when you "Open with..."?
2) DPlot is open and you drag your file onto DPlot?
3) DPlot is not open; you drag your file onto the DPlot desktop icon?

David,

Windows version is WinXP Pro sp1 will all current security fixes (except full sp2).

What results do you get if:
1) DPlot is already open when you "Open with..."?
Same behavior. Doesn't see my color set.
2) DPlot is open and you drag your file onto DPlot?
It works! Correct colors are displayed!
3) DPlot is not open; you drag your file onto the DPlot desktop icon?
It works! Correct colors are displayed!

Humm?

Well, the workarounds are definitely there!

Hope this helps.

Jon
