Embedded image moved to other folder

Post by Roberto »

Hi,

From what I understood when opening a Dplot file with embedded image it:
1) searches for the embedded image file at its exact path

and if not found it:
2) searches for the embedded image file in the folder where the current DPlot file is in.

Action 2 is not working: moving a DPlot file and an embedded image to an other folder I get an error message, followed by the DPlot file being opened without embedded image.

The order of search depends on how the DPlot file is saved.

IF the image is in the same folder where the DPlot file is saved, then no path information is saved, just the filename. Then on another machine DPlot will first look in the folder where the DPlot file resides, then in My Documents\DPlot\Images.

Similarly, if the image is in My Documents\DPlot\Images then no path information is saved, just the filename. DPlot will first look in the folder where the DPlot file is saved, presumably fail to find it, then look in My Documents\DPlot\Images.

If the image does NOT reside in the same folder as the DPlot file OR in My Documents\DPlot\Images then the full path to the image is saved to the DPlot file, and that path\filename must of course match up on the other computer.

Sounds like in any case if the DPlot file and embedded image are in the same folder then it would work.

Unfortunately it doesn't work here: I now have both files in a single folder yet DPlot tells me he can't find the image in [path original folder].

Initially I had both files in different custom folders meaning that DPlot saved the path info for the embedded image.

The path includes the drive letter, which is my guess as to why this doesn't work for you.
Edit: Sorry, that's nonsense. If the image is in the same folder as the DPlot file then the path should not be saved.

You can open the DPlot file in Notepad and look near the bottom for "Image". The next line will be the path\filename (or just filename).
