XP users of version 2.3.5.5

Post by DPlotAdmin »

There's a problem with the latest update when running on Windows XP that I haven't figured out yet. I'm almost positive it has something to do with the code-signing certificate and "Digest algorithm" sha256, which pre-Windows XP SP2 does not support. This change was made necessary because Microsoft said a while back that Windows 7+ would no longer recognize the older sha1 algorithm starting in 2017. So I thought I had a workaround using both, but several XP users have reported startup problems.

Fortunately, there is an easy fix (he says, crossing his fingers). Find dplot.exe in Explorer, right-click and select Properties, then the Compatibility tab. Under "Compatibility Mode" check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows 95". And no, I agree that it makes no sense whatsoever that this should work, but one user has reported that it does.

Hopefully I'll get this solved before too long and XP users won't have to jump through this hoop. Worst case I'll publish XP and post-XP versions, but this is obviously not ideal.

Version 2.3.5.6 fixes this problem for Windows XP users. If you already have version 2.3.5.5 and are not running XP, there is no need to update - nothing else has changed.

Mailing list recipients can use the previous mail link to get the update, if desired.
