David - Due to the nature of our data collection / telemetry systems, I'm frequently working with discontinuous or irregularly sampled data. I also use your "generate" functions extensively to explore / manipulate data. A feature that would interest me greatly would be the ability to use things like Generate->Y=F(X,Y1,Y2... without being forced to equal intervals. Specifically what I think I'd like to see is the ability to select a "basis vector" from the list of curves, and have the Y=F(X,Y1,Y2.. run only at X values that correspond to X value entries from that curve. The kind of benefits that I see for this are things like 1) being able to generate a curve that can be directly used in features like "Bubble Plot" which pair values in curves strictly by their data indices, 2) ability to use generate functions in "sparse" data sets without generating millions of extraneous points, 3) elimination of artifacts in plots involving digital system state values (Hmmm... what's this state 2.7? Oh, that's an interpolation between states 2 and 3....), 4) better operation with cyclic data (I don't want an artifical point at 179.5 degrees when my digital resolver rolls over from 359 to zero)....
So I think what I'm looking for is a pulldown to allow me to replace "with interval dX = " with a selection "Using X values from: ". Can you summon any enthusiasm for such a feature? Thanks - Richard _________________ - RAS |

"Can you summon any enthusiasm for such a feature?"
Certainly. And this is a fairly trivial change. Of course it would have been really good to receive your input 5 minutes before I posted an update rather than 5 minutes after, but as far as I know even you rocket scientist guys don't do precognition very well, so I won't hold it against you. You can look for this in the next release. _________________ Visualize Your Data

I knew you were going to say that....
